Rock Stands: Why Is It Important To Have The Most Reliable Rock Stands You Can

Date of Article. By Matthew Fahs

Introduction

When protecting your specimens, you want to ensure that you are going with stands that can stand up to what you’re putting down on them. The correct rock stands for the correct rock and is the difference between your prized specimen remaining on your shelf or being dismembered on your floor.

What Type of Rock Stands Are There

There are long stands and short stands. Stands that are made from wood, steel, and plastic. There are stands with three legs and four legs. As well as stands that can withstand anything you task it…

We will break down the most basic stands and what they are good for in this article.

1. Three Prong Stands

These stands are used to handle your more polygonal-type rocks, or rocks with multiple grooves or edges. They support the rock by using the natural downward mass point of the stone. There are multiple positions where you can place your rock on these types of stands. If the stand is made well it will be able to support most positions you try.

Mineral Cove 3 prong stands are made using PLA melting process. Natural groves are created during the processes allowing the stone to rest upon them. This creates a strong grip allowing the stone to remain upright even in some awkward positions.

2. Fossil/Slab Stands

These stands are made with grooves in the center to support the specimen at different angles. This groove function is not available on most fossil slab stands but is available on the Mineral Cove fossil slab stands.

3. 4 Prong Stands

These stands are made to support more than just minerals they are good for anything with a flat bottom. These stands have an equal-spaced four-point system splitting the weight of the rock onto the four points.

There are fancier stands out there for a more decorative style of displaying your minerals and crystals. You can always go with these last stands if you feel the stand needs to add to décor rather than sit back and display just the mineral.

4. Decorative Displays

These stands work better for decoration than they do as functioning mineral stands. Most people will use them to accent a style in their house or display area. These are not recommended for the longevity of holding your mineral but in a pinch do work.

What type of Collector Are You?

As we just went over rock stands come in all shapes and sizes. Selecting the right rock stands really depends on you.

What are you using them for?

Some people need their rock stands to hide in the background for photo shoots. If that is the case we recommend the Black 3 Prong Rock Stands.

Some people like to display them on shelves.

In this case, we recommend the clear fossil slab stands or the 3 prong clear stands. These stands tend to sit in the background and let your mineral be the star of the show.

Maybe you go to Mineral and Gem shows with your collection or sells minerals.

We recommend becoming a wholesale dealer with us. we offer the best prices of mineral stands around. These stands are so well priced you can sell them or give half away and still be able to turn a profit.

Last, if you are a casual collector and want to keep your specimens on the shelf. Head over and grab any of our rock stands. They are made for strength and stability.
